Ever wonder what could happen to a “simple” builder spec house just by changing out the inexpensive light fixtures, painting and adding in some quality furnishings and decor? THIS… THIS can happen! Talk about a transformation!
This project definitely grew legs little by little. Anyone who knows me knows my passion is lighting-it can transform a space. However, dipping your toe into this arena should come with a warning label: could be expensive! Once you replace one fixture you want to replace another, then another, then another! This project is the perfect example: we had targeted fixtures to replace and fixtures to keep… but by the time we were done we had replaced them all! However, the end result is nothing short of amazing. I think someone caught my passion for lighting-this home is anything but builder basic now!
The original fireplace surround was highly traditional so we removed the entire facade and replaced it floor to ceiling with iridescent glass tile. To fill out the wall we added built-in cabinets flanking the fireplace which not only added storage but provided the opportunity for much needed lighting on that side of the room. In lieu of the fan we added a chandelier from Currey and Company and one of my signature touches is an illuminated art install-the pieces comprising this install are from Arteriors.
While this was a new build and technically there was nothing wrong with the existing backsplash, it was just boring. We spiced it up by bringing the iridescent tile from the hearth across the room and using it along the backsplash. This move really makes the cabinets stand out. We also swapped out cabinet hardware. Always pay attention to the small details. There… that looks better!
The client really wanted her master en suite to feel different from the rest of the house so we elected to go with a reverse paint scheme and played up the coffered ceilings with a specialty paint effect by Iron Petunia. The custom oversized artwork by Viapaggi balances the full wall of custom drapery by Sew Unordinary in this incredibly large master retreat. Furnishings by Vanguard Furniture chandeliers by Currey and Company.
It all started with this statement mirror by Global Views… then we needed appropriate sconces so I used these Crystorama fixtures that are actually intended for use as ceiling mount fixtures but I find them terribly interesting in this application and highly scale appropriate. Then, of course, the fixture over the stairwell HAD to be replaced with this showstopper from Arteriors. The iron balusters are custom painted by Iron Petunia.
